Our teams will be coached by industrial coaches, board members and business school professors in order to establish a business opportunity. IBBT business ideas lie in the Information and Communication application in which IBBT is active (Culture & Media, eHealth, Mobility, Logistics, enabling technologies, etc..).

Who’s IBBT?

IBBT (Interdisciplinary Institute for Broadband Technology) is an independent research institute founded by the Flemish government to stimulate ICT innovation. The IBBT team offers companies and organizations active support in research and development. It brings together companies, authorities, and non-profit organizations to join forces on research projects. Both technical and non-technical issues are addressed within each of these projects. Information and Communications Technology is a fast-developing and unpredictable sector. Convergence with other sectors such as health care and the media have paved the way for a plethora of new business models, and successive waves of technological innovation have opened up new markets. Innovation and time-to-market are essential for companies to succeed in this sector, and therein often lies the rub.

The creation of an ‘ecosystem’ such as Silicon Valley, in which top universities, venture capital, large companies and entrepreneurs have networked and created an efficient loop of value-adding innovations, is therefore invaluable. Flemish modesty is no longer called for. Any Belgian ICT start-up looking to break into the world market would do best to adopt an international strategy from the word go. No small task for an entrepreneur! IBBT also offers a range of support services to help achieve quicker research results and give a greater chance of successfully getting onto the market. The offering consists of a complementary set of tools , starting with awareness raising concerning IPR and valorization, via theoretical and practical training, through to logistical and financial support from innovative ICT starters.

What’s iBoot Camp?

Whenever a spin-off is seeking investors the composition of a team is often an important breaking point. To rectify this fault as early as during the starting phase, that is to say long before seeking capital, IBBT has introduced the iBoot Camp formula. This iBoot Camp is subdivided into a number of sessions over several days that can be followed by the various teams. During the iBoot Camp specialized workshops focus attention on training, coaching and teamwork around a specific business idea. The aim is for the teams to look at their projects from a number of different angles, such as technology, marketing, finance etc., and to study any potential opportunities and risks in detail with the help of a number of professional coaches. At the end of the iBoot Camp the different teams have to present their project to a jury of experts, including venture capitalists, who then give feedback and advice.

iBoot Camp 2011: what’s in it for you?

We’re now recruiting team members for the third edition, running from March until September 2011. Over 30 innovative ICT business ideas were submitted for this year's edition. We selected 16 of them that are still in the running to join the training & coaching program, that is of they manage to recruit a strong team with complementary skills (finance, marketing, sales, business development, HR,…)!

They now need to recruit their team members so as convince the selection jury not only of the potential of their business idea, but of the complementarity and potential of the team that’s going to put it into practice as well.
