EECI 2009 - European ExpressionEngine and CodeIgniter Conference
ExpressionEngine 2.0 will be released on the 1st of December
Wow, what a big surprise in the keynote of Leslie Camacho, president of Ellislab (creators of ExpressionEngine and CodeIgniter), the long awaited version 2.0 of ExpressionEngine will be released on the 1st of December 2009. We are still under a non-disclosure since Bene was selected a few months ago to participate in the Beta program, so we are not allowed to give too much detail... But I think we can say that it looks great and more important it is a giant leap forward from a technical point of view.
ExpressionEngine 2.0 is completely rewritten to make use of Ellislab's own CodeIgniter (www.codeigniter.com). CodeIgniter is a well respected lightweight PHP Framework that is used in hundreds of thousands of webapplications. Strategically speaking Ellislab made a very wise decision joining these 2 products: ExpressionEngine has always been the sweetheart of the designers for the web. It is just that flexible that it can hold any design, no matter how different it is from the common designs we all know. CodeIgniter -as said- is the preferred framework for many webdevelopers around the world. What can be expected putting these 2 communities on the same platform: fireworks!
